Heart Bunting Tutorial

You will need:

  • (Scrap) fabric
  • String
  • Beads (optional)
  • Fabric chalk (or other fabric marker)
  • And either a sewing machine or a needle and thread

Instructions:

1. Cut out a heart template (I googled mine as I have substandard drawing skills). Remember to make the template bigger than the size you want your heart to be so it includes seam allowance.

2. Pin the template to two layers of fabric (right sides facing each other) then cut around it

3. Mark two lines where your string will go (make them parallel and on upper half of heart)

4. Start sewing around you heart but leave a 4cm gap at the end. (beginning at bottom corner) also leave around 1.5cm gap where your line marks are.

5. Turn heart inside out, so right sides of fabric are facing you, use pencil to help poke out the curves.

6. Find your string and cut just over 30 cm. Tie a knot at one end, then in the middle tie a bead to the string. At the other end of the string tie another knot. So on your piece of string there should be a knot, a bead and then another knot.

7. Poke one knot into one of the 1.5 cm line gaps so the knot is on the inside.
Sew the gap shut using a top stitch.

8. Get another piece of string, again just over 30 cm. Tie a knot at one end, then 15 cm tie a bead, at and the other end tie another knot.

9. Insert the first knot into the other 1.5 cm gap in the heart, and again sew shut.

10. Stuff your heart with scrap fabrics (or another filling) through the 4 cm gap. Once full top stitch this shut,

11. Repeats these steps until you have added the number of hearts you desire to your bunting :)
